Oval Track Dirt Kart Racers are looking at forming a new association with the aim of running oval track speedway style meetings in South Australia. OTDKR is not associated with SKAA, AKA, AIDKA and will be a new controlling body set up with the aim of oval track racing in SA. We have available a Metro Track and Country track available with the intention of running events at both facilities. All classes of karts from rookies through to senior karts will be catered for including body karts such as quarter midget styled and including the Winged Sprint Karts Australia spec karts. Licencing and insurance will be more affordable than some forms of kart racing and with a view to cross code racing at some stage. ie one insurance covers all. The initial contact point is Brenton: ovaltrackkartracers@gmail.com It is hoped to be up and running in early 2011 subject to interest. So we ask drivers put your hands up and be involved in an exciting oval track experience in SA.

Hi Brenton, Could you please give me some idea of the actual track locations as being only two tracks they need to be reasonably easy to get to, race and return within the day. Thanks

1 track is located near Adelaide on northern side and is currently being developed the other is a 2 hour trip from Adelaide northern based. I can't give much more details because the formal leasing agreements are still being done. The meetings will be day night meetings and travel times would be no more than those who currently compete at country AIDKA tracks. More details will follow as things happen. Race format will be along the lines of speedway including poll shuffle for feature class of the day. I forgot to mention that core fluted body panels will also be allowed in all classes other than rookies as will cluthches be allowed to be used racing regulations will be in place to give clutch and non clutch some parity to make it fair, but this prempting things a little first we must have the interest to move forward

A big project to get an association up and running. I hope it goes well as i think there is a place for a crossover between dirt circuit karting and speedway classes.
Good luck.

Sorry if I am missing something obvious but what is the difference between this proposed Oval Track Racing and the current Speedway Karting?
I have seen various posts relating to speedway karting in Australia but from what I see it appears to be a bit less formal than AIDKA and AKA.
If it is being run on speedway tracks wouldn't it be better to join the speedway karting association for example and increase their numbers?

Hi John fair point. With differing views with SKAA format and information it was decided to take the plunge and start a new association for oval track racing. We aim to provide a bigger cross section of racing than is currently on offer from SKAA of AKA both of whom run speedway style events. We intend to offer similar classes of racing but also bring bodied cars into our classes.Something the other forms do not offer or will consider. Speedway karting in SA is basically non existent with the exception of a few who race over the border. It is intended to be a little more relaxed in format and not ruled by the iron fist as is apparent in some codes of racing. Our format will be loosely styled similar to speedway racing and give the opportunity of other formats to have cross code racing with the minimum hassles regarding licencing and insurance. The tracks we will be offering will oval track not dedicated speedway tracks as used by SKAA and AKA. By this being the case we also have other options that maybe implement at some stage. We have looked at the current speedway karting associations there aims and goals are different to what we hope to implement. As I have said previously this in the early stages and still a long way to go

Hi Brenton, Thanks for answering my question as I didn't quite understand the reasoning but now appreciate what you are working to achieve. Having a more relaxed format and rules that allow for classes to race together from the existing codes should open up the proposed association to a larger interest group. I think it is a good concept and should generate a lot of interest. Keep up the good work.
