What are the factors that influence the running of a meeting or dirt kart racing in general?
I need some extra points for a Business Studies Assignment on Work Environment.
Please be as thorough as possible.
Thanks

Weather has to be one. If it rains it may take some time to get the track back to a suitable condition for racing (eg not a slop pit) Wind and Sun can dry the track out too fast. Then the water truck may have to come out for a lap or 2 to put some moisture back in the track. Or it could need grading due to ruts forming from various reasons like lack of track prep, moisture loss, lots of karts running in the same spot and run off from rain.
The number of people racing has to be influential as well. Some people are more organized than others and take up time getting to the grid or back from the track when stopped/crashed in the weeds down the far side of the track ( I think most of us have done something similar at one time or another). Others might be late getting scrutineered first thing due to various reasons. Another thing is possibly too many classes running on the day with only a couple of people in each. Why run 2 classes of 4 or 5 people, say KT light and heavy for example, just bung em in together and let em go. You could still keep points separate if needed.
Hope I'm on the right track, pardon the pun.

- Petrol Prices
- Interest Rates
- Nomination Price
- Price of a Kart
- License Price
- Gate Prices
All of these money issues not only effect karting in general but it also takes away some of that extra money that would be for instance spent at the canteen. Also location is a big part of running a successful dirt kart club, take a look at all the current clubs that are in locations of larger population they have more members.

The kart suppliers and shops also effect the dirt kart clubs if they increase there prices on karts less people will buy new karts and eventually this will result in less people coming to meetings.
Also if insurance for instance was increased this would cause licenses to cost more which could make less people come to meetings.
If the government change there laws on the selling of liqueur licenses at club this would effect the income of the club.
Clubs by constantly trying to improve there technology, for instance better track, double grid, lights etc will gain a competitive advantage over other track as they offer a better service than those clubs who use old style techniques (technology). For instance ever since the introduction of quick grid at the ADKC grids have been quickly produced in very little time when compared to the old method 'by hand'.
Also in regard to the ADKC for instance it has a great location as it is motor-sport country and doesn't face the fears of moving as a result of the urban sprawl like other tracks that are located in populating country towns.
Will keep you posted as some more ideas come to hand..

Also I can mention in regard to technology clubs who have websites seem to have bigger meetings than those who don't as driver can access information at the click of a button and can find out what is happening at most clubs. By keeping people informed about what is happening can lead to general talk about your club which could result in more activity around the club (drivers).
Also if food prices where to increase the canteen would have to increase there prices which would mean less money for the club to spend on improving there facilities.
If rego on trailers was to increase in price a fair bit, less people could afford to have a trailer and this would mean less people being able to afford to race karts which effects clubs as everyone needs a trailer to transport there kart.
The general experience is also another important factor as once somebody has a good experience they will hopefully come back talk to there friends about the atmosphere and they will come an so on. So clubs need to try to create a great atmosphere whether it be through competitive racing/ large nominations or through great facilities.
Thanks everyone for there points so far!
Will put up some more points later as it would be good for the general karter to know what effects there club.

Also for a club to gain a competitive advantage over there competitors they need to be very organized and have structure on race day.

Like how at the ADKC you can work out of your tralier can you do that at any other club?
Also people go to clubs for the event, such as trophy days, state or national titles.

This is a little abstract but it does work if you think about it. If tarrifs were increased on imported goods everything that is imported will cost more and this would mean less disposable income for families to spend which would limit karters to travel and do as many meetings as practable. It will also effect supply to the clubs through food and all racing apparal will cost more etc..

Also without the inventions of such scientific practices that let you predict the weather, the clubs wouldn't know what to expect weather wise and they can lose a lot of meetings and have to reschedule them.
Also insurance is a major influence on the running of meetings as without insurance clubs can't run there meetings also when insurance increases this effects membership costs and maybe gate fees as clubs try to compensate for the increase in there tracks insurance.

Officials being consistent with rulings and any penalties reduces any animosity by drivers.
Drivers appreciating that officials are mostly volunteering their time and out of pocket expenses to assist with race events. Contrary to some drivers opinions a small thank you to the volunteers is worth a lot.
At larger Title events it can be time consuming to have to hear numerous protests. Some are warranted but there are usually a lot of "time wasters" that consume the officials time and in some cases delay the evnt timetable.
A well catered canteen is usually appraciated by the spectators.
Good amenities such as rest rooms are appreciated by everyone.

Here's another question......
How has the recession in December and Janurary last year affected your dirt kart club?
