The World Series Sprintcar Management today unveiled a vibrant new TV package for the 2009/10 series. The
series will return to free to air TV after a 3 year absence in a major package on the new One HD channel. WSS
inclusion in the summer line up of sports programs on One HD is a major coup for the series as renewed
interest at all levels takes hold of the elite Sprintcar Championship Series.
The series boasts the cream of Australian Sprintcar teams and has already announced a new streamlined
calendar for 2009/10. The teams have also welcomed the professional management of the series and all twelve
available contracts were quickly snapped up. This is double the team commitment to the series last year and
full fields of over 35 cars are expected at all fourteen rounds.
World Series Sprintcar Chairman Geoff Kendrick announced the deal in Perth today. For the first time the
Grand Final will be held at the spectacular Perth Motorplex and competitors & promoters joined with
Kendrick to highlight the importance of the new deal.
‘A major priority was to return the WSS to a high profile TV package and this is the jewel in the crown for
Sprintcars’ Kendrick said. ‘It is a great achievement by the WSS Management Group and vindicates our
decision to join the various interest groups to focus on one goal. Sprintcar Racing’s Dale Rodgers has driven
the project and today we really kick the WSS into overdrive.’ Kendrick added.
One HD is viewed as a perfect vehicle for WSS with its expanding capital city audience and recent spread in
to the key regional areas.
‘Our negotiations with One HD have been very productive and we will now embark on a production concept
that will show Sprintcars at a level not seen before on Australian TV. Extensive user of in car cameras, wall
cams and new camera positions at the tracks will lift our profile substantially’ commented WSS Commercial
Manager Dale Rodgers.
‘We have contracted Power Productions to produce the shows and the initial planning looks very good. In
addition Power Productions will work extensively with new venue Big Screen supplier Screen Corp to give
our fans the best on course action as well.’ Rodgers concluded.
The One HD package will run during the WSS racing season to ensure fans can keep up with the series as it
travels across Australia.
