Dirt Trackers Kart Club (DTKC) was formed after an advert was placed in the West Australian Newspaper and club founder Ken Ditchfield Snr called the inaugural meeting. Approximately 50 people attended the meeting and that night they formed the first committee of the Dirt Trackers Kart Club. A Busy Bee was organised at Ken Ditchfield Snr’s gravel pit at 26 Mile Peg Road, Gidgegannup. The track was pegged out, constructed and formed in four weeks.
The first race meeting was held with 14 karts. The tower was just a tin shed and was operated by the late Fred Holmes, stepfather of Ted Gittos. Rose Lawrence ran the canteen from the back of a Ute. The club raced a Gidgegannup for approximately 2 seasons, then Ken Ditchfield Snr had the foresight to move the Dirt Trackers Kart Club to the infamous Kewdale site, which ran very successfully and hosted several national titles, but unfortunately due to industrial development the Dirt Trackers Kart Club move to its current location at Boomerang Road, Wellard, where it has run for more than 10 years.
The original Dirt Trackers Kart Club was run under AKA (Australian Karting Association). DTKC changed to the AIDKA (Australian Independent Dirt Kart Association) banner in 1992/1993 and has grown to its current membership of 202 racing members and 40 social members. The Dirt Trackers Kart Club can now boast State and National Champions, which are proud achievements for the kart club that started its career with 14 racing members.
Dirt racing is the answer to keeping karting at an affordable level. We cater for people between the ages of 7 to 70. For anyone who follows speedway, dirt karts have been a very good grounding.
speedway competitors have been or associations with go-karting. The Dirt Trackers Kart Club goes into the year 2008 with a big future. It is quite often said Dirt Karting is a well-kept secret and the present strength of the Dirt Trackers Kart Club is due to the foresight of founding member Mr Ken Ditchfield Snr.
Dirt Trackers Kart Club Life Membership members, Ken Ditchfield, Sharon Nelson, Colin Nelson, Barry Pages, Rod Fenn, Kevin Thompson, John Fuller, Geoff O'Keefe
