I've raced both, and as usual there are pro's and con's.. I'm racing 125 now as i don't have a heap of mates that i travel around with anymore, so it's nice to be able to go without pushers..
Also if you want to race at the front, the 125 is WAY cheaper than KT. I literally bought a second hand leopard for $1200 of ebay, and have no problems running with the front guys. When i used to race KT i spent many thousands developing the motor and they require constant rings / hones to keep the compression up. I haven't touched the leopard in 10 races, and it had 17hours use when i bought it!
Best bit about the KT is they are simple.. Air cooled and TCI ignition, not much to go wrong. With the 125 you have to keep an eye on the electrics and clutch, and there are hoses and wires hanging off your kart all over the place.. That is a bit of a pain. Also if you like playing with the motor, the KT is fun, port shapes and timing/carby mods/exhaust design/ignition mods/friction coatings/head profiles etc.. All fun to play around with.. (of course that means there is a large disparity between engines in this class).
Another good thing about KT's is there are heaps of them, always get good numbers which makes the racing more fun.. Some clubs struggle to get good fields of 125.. As i usually race at Adelaide, it doesn't matter so much as we always get good numbers in the 125's as well as KT's.
Overall it's 125cc for me. KT's just a bit too expensive for me and i like not having to push start my kart!

125 would have to be better as they are quicker and you don't have to have pushers. + they are very entertaining to watch.
