Sunday 21st June
With perfect weather for the event and 140 karts nominated to race. The pits were packed to the rafters - it's amazing what trophies can do.
For the trophy classes there were twelve 125 Light drivers and sixteen 125 Heavy drivers. With Sunday being the shortest day of the year we had a lot to get through. Favourite in 125 Lights for the win was Adelaide driver Ben Brown who didn't disappoint running away with the number one trophy. Kenny Waters had a smile on his face to collect second place. Girl power stole 3rd place to to local club member Lisa Walker.
In the heavy class Darren Shields from Huntfield Heights ripped up the track to be first to the chequrerd flag. 2nd place went to Michael Miller from Adelaide, Sam Freeman raced home to receive 3rd place.
A great days racing for all the support classes.
30 Years of dedication and commitment
Another family celebrating last weekend was the Waters family, there have been active members of the club for thirty years.
Bob a racer from back in the early days, love to help out our new drivers. It is a testiment to Bob to have seen sons, daughters and grandchildren of some of the original founding members racing or involved with the club. If there is a job to do at the club, Bob has done it or still doing it. From racer to track maintenance, nominations secretary, licence officer, program collator, scrutineer, starter, steward to name just a few.
While wife Kaye says if you can't beat them join them. Kaye has been a clerk of the course grid marshall, cooks a mean BBQ and helps out in the canteen; she's always around when needed, people like these are irreplaceable. Well done Bob and Kaye.
Bob's son Darren also raced at Strath for about 9yrs. Darren's Daughter Hayley Waters raced in the rookies class for 2yrs.
Steve Waters has been with the club also for 30yrs and now races in the 125cc class. Steve has a son Luke and daughter Jamie Lee racing in the junior classes.
So the Waters name is going to be around for a while to come.
Our next meeting will be held on Sunday 12th July being 2009 Club Championship.
