Are they a good idea or bad. SKAA are looking at implementing them next season, AKA are using them. Can the expense be justified.
They would help with direct communications from chief steward to drivers as per speedway use and would take out the human error part of running a meeting. I am undecided on them at present I would expect AIDKA would be looking at the use in near future as AIDKA does align their rules with those other governing bodies. Lets generate some discussion on this topic

It would probably cost too much for the country clubs to run the transponders and it has to be the same right across the association so I think this would probably never be considered unless members across the association increase by 100%.

Last year the AMB transponder people met with the AIDKA executive, so i would imagine the cost of all clubs being set up for transponders has already been worked out.. I haven't heard any more, so i gather it was pretty pricey.
Technology moves so fast that the longer we can wait to implement this, the cheaper it will be!
I think the best thing about having transponders would be to see everyone's lap times! I really don't think it's common to have problems with the actual finishing order of the karts.

Transponders are a good idea. The cost for club to setup the infrastructure is I believe around $12,000. Each transponder is approximately $400 which sounds a lot but is probably a set of tyres or engine rebuild. As mentioned in a previous post the timing system would assist the lap scoring and remove human error that can occur from time to time with mud covered numbers. The lap scorers do a brilliant job but they can't see numbers under a coating of mud. The AMB system is used in just about every other motor sport including radio control cars, MX, speedway sprint karts etc. The current AIDKA grid system could still be used and the lap scoring handled by the transponder system.

With the use of the transponder it could help with the running of the meet and give some mums a break with lap scoring. it would help to know the lap times so they could be used in conjunction with set ups, we could maybe think of only using them on big meets e.g. nationals, states, this would help stop any confusion with positions and help with costs by not having to set up the system at every track. for instance blanchtown could hold of with the system till they hold another big meet ??
