Short History Both have been there since day one, and are still there. CONGRATULATIONS, Denis and Tom. It is due to their diligence and hard work, and that also of the few original foundation club members that anything salvageable from the Dublin Go-kart Club, prior to the new highway going through, was removed and re-erected at YP by the initial members. That includes the club room (big shed), pit toilets and stewards tower at the start finish line. (The stewards tower frame was totally rebuilt by Denis prior to erection). Every thing was removed sheet by sheet, marked and re-erecred at YP. Many of the perma-pine post also came from the Dublin club. The the pit toilets from Dublin brings back memories, as i pissed in that same urinal 50 years ago in situ at Dublin. So this message is to convey some information of the small band of initial dedicated members, who argued in depth over the location of the track initially, whether to be at Moonta, Wallaroo or Kadina. After much argument and near physical aggression as to location, the YP site was agreed upon. The then members put aside their differences, formed the YP Club and set out to provide a track and facilities that would invite outside competition, as we only had enough karts to barely fill only couple of races. Yes, we did it, and did it very well, with the guidance of Tom Amos and Denis Jones. So good was YP, the 1998 State Championships were held there, with the opening address from my friend Astronaut, Andy Thomas, during his 141 day stay on the Mir Space Station. This was made possible due to my Ham Radio activities, and me supplying and operating the YP public address system. Yes, I was also a competitor from "day one" of YP. The "atmosphere was electric". Just after the Chief Steward gave his briefing to all drivers, who were on the infield near the start/finish line, the voice came from space, announcing that this is Andy Thomas from the Mir Space Sration orbiting the Earth above you. It was an address to the drivers and all in attendance; finishing with start your engines, and lets go racing. It was absolutely brilliant. Tom has got the main straight named after him, and has a life membership. Very well deserved as I seconded the motion. It is about time they name a corner after Denis, because he has previously got the club out of many "corners" in the past. If Denis has not yet got life membership yet, I would suggest that some members nominate him for that very well deserved award. If not, why not, as I proposed that many years ago. I hope the gas pie and pasty warmer/heater is still working, as I constructed it. Information by: Jim Barker former racer and foundation member.

I remember that State Titles in '98, and it was pretty cool to hear Andy Thomas give us all his opening address from the MIR.
I ended up snapping a crank in the final of 100cc Open, but had enough points to still get SA3.
It always amazes me how much can be achieved when a group of passionate volunteers get together, thanks for the article and well done to the YP guys!
I still have the program from that event, it's cool to look back at some of the people that are still racing now and see what they were up to!
Andy Wundenberg was Aus2 in Briggs and Stratton Gary Duff had Lighning Karts as a sponsor Jarrod Moore was Aus2 in KT light Jim Kolizos was Aus1 in 200cc open Michael Burford was Aus2 in 200cc open Mark Burford was Aus2 in 100cc open Harold Beil was Aus1 in KT twin

Naming parts of the track recognize,s the efforts of members and so does Life Membership. It is my understanding of Life Membership then precludes that person from holding an Official Position in the club other than an Advisory role, so it is now time for the old vanguard of the club to now step back and allow the newer members the opportunity to advance the club. I am not knocking the excellent work done by these members but it is time for fresh ideas and management to happen, it can not be a we did this club it must be given every opportunity to progress forward. I know this will set the cat among the pigeons but it is now time for a change

I totally agree with you Hayden another idea might be to name the pit corner after him ?? The Denis Jones Corner sounds good. Evidently Tom wasnt awarded life membership as he left the club for a couple of years at some stge due to work I think. They named the Tom Amos straight in recognition though, if I got the story wrong I stand corrected

Naming a corner in recognition is good but he never stood aside at least not a the agm I was at he was not renominated for any position but stills maintains to hang onto the position he had until September thats not stepping aside nor is it the correct way of running things in other words nothing has changed

I would think everyone would be better off working together as a club. We are only a small club so lets get on with doing the work and make our days enjoyable for everyone. If you have a problem get over it there's no joy in bitching

i agree Hayden does plenty for the club and should be thank for doing it not ppl having a go at him. As outlaw said we are a small club and everyone needs to join togeather to move the club forward. If all you wont to do it have a go at someone well i personal feel you should find another club as we are a good club and dont need ppl dragging it down.

I think maybe we should all be appreciative of the work that everyone does with the club no mater how little or how much someone does as long as the job gets done & the club keeps going forward. I know there are a lot of us who wish we could do more for the club but seen how some of us are out of towm members it makes it hard to do what we want, so how about we all get on with the job on hand & do what we all do best & leave the running of the club to those who are dedicated & the rest of us giving them some of our ideas. Ive been racing at this club on & of over the last 10 years lets not let it go down hill over a bit of naggleing lets just have a good time racing & keep it a family club great job by all concerned

If this club is run as correctly as some think then why back at the speedway meeting was a scaled down speedway vehicle allowed to do the runs it did on the evening. This not nor will be a go kart nor sanctioned by AIDKA, and as much as some tried to say this is what go karts could evolved into then you need to seriously look at the safety aspect. Point 1 this vehicle was not scuitineered Point 2 this run with a 400cc plus motor Point 3 this vehicle is equipped with roll cage and body work. Each point a breach of AIDKA rules. This vehicle was driven at speeds not designed to be driven on this track and even you Haydyn started in this forum you considered it to be dangerous go back and check your comments. The owner of this vehicle was allowed to run this vehicle because of who he is and friendly with. It should not have been allowed on the track by the executive of this club in any form other than a slow moving display. The danger aspect of caged cars when they do have mishaps is serious the safety barriers are not of a standard required to operate such a vehicle. Let it run where it should on speedway not here. 94# if I choose to be a member I will or a member of another club I will. Outlaw# Yes I do have a problem with the way some aspects are run as far as getting over them no they need to be aired. olman# I know some are unable to do as much as they like but some aren't given the opportunity to do so because of an element pre organizing things and not make known what can be done. Older members cannot consider this to be there own personnel track it doesn't work like that when you take membership money. This is my opinion I don't ask you to agree but I have a right to it .

I'm in total agreement with you re the kart mentioned, I'm sure it wont be out there again, I had no idea it was going to be running to be honest., If you are looking for something to do out there here is a few things that need doing off the top of my head, pulling weeds, painting tyres, mowing, we need more stewards and marshalls, someone to man the tickets box, ask Keiith Baker I'm sure he will find you something to do, if thats what you really intend. Who are you by the way? Send me a message if you dont want your name in here or even better actually register on this site.
