Hey all, just a question for the die hard sprintcar fans out there? Is world series sprintcars DEAD? With just over 3 weeks to go before the first round in Brisbane and there is only 2 contracted drivers so far. Can anyone shed any light on this situation? I for one was disappointed with last years series and it seems that only Wade Aunger knows how to put on this show with any creditability. I hope to see a truly national Australian sprintcar series with all of the top drivers competing, as it was in years gone by. May be we will have to wait for the new promoters organisation to get up and running before we get to see a creditable national series again? I'm looking forward to seeing plenty of local sprintcar racing around south Australia this season and wish all of the former karters running sprints the very best for the 2008 / 09 season. Mark caruso Steve caruso Mat egle Daniel pestka Ryan jones Mark burford Michael burford Shannon barry Anymore???

BROOKE Tatnell was the toast of drivers, crews, officials and fans at the Wanless World Series Sprintcars presentation night at the Parramatta Leagues Club in Sydney on Sunday night.
It was here he was officially named the WWSS champion for the 2008/09 season – an award that was deserving for such a consistent team at the pointy end of the field.
Full credit must go to the professionalism of the driver, the crew (under the helm of crew chief Pete Caporn) and team owner Shane Krikke with all three setting a very high benchmark for the sport in this country.
There were plenty of reasons for the KMS team to celebrate on the night with Tatnell also being crowned the Vortex Dash Champion and the Comp Cams Quick Time champion.
Caporn won the Speedway Racing News Crew Chief of the Year award.
Tatnell won the overall award from Robbie Farr and Max Dumesny after the completing of the 15-gruelling rounds.
Dumesny, who has hit solid form in recent weeks, starting off with a win at Toowoomba, won the Qld Speedway Spares Heat championship.
Farr was voted the Drivers’ Driver and was also presented with the Hoosier Hard Charger trophy while Maiolo Racing, headed up by driver Ricky Maiolo, won the Best Presented Car and Crew accolade.
Now that the series has been done and dusted it is worth taking a quick look back and seeing just how dominant Tatnell was.
He opened up his account with a third at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway in round two after the first round at Brisbane International Raceway the week earlier was washed out.
The team then returned to their ‘other’ home state where Tatnell blitzed the field on two consecutive nights to win rounds three and four at the Perth Motorplex.
The Tatnell/Krikke Motorsport juggernaut then packed up and went back across the Nullabor to race at Truckworks Speedway City in Adelaide the next week and again it was a win for the W2 entry.
All the teams loaded their gear onto the Spirit of Tasmania for a two-weekend racing deal “overseas”.
Round six in Hobart saw the team bank some more points with a second and the next week at Latrobe it was another second.
The teams had a mini break before resuming hostilities with the opening bout of Speedweek and round eight of the series back at Speedway City on Boxing Day.
The break probably didn’t seem long enough for many of Tatnell’s rivals as he claimed another second and the following night he struck with his fourth win of the series with a win at Murray Bridge.
So after eight races the worst result for the team was a third and it was pretty obvious (as if it wasn’t already) that the title was heading Tatnell’s way if the professional team kept everything in check.
Round 10 saw a rare drop down the order when they took on a big field at Borderline Speedway in Mount Gambier.
They crossed the line in sixth which would have been reason to smile for most teams but not this team that wanted to win everything it entered.
There was no reason to panic however as the team bounced back to consistent form in round 11 at Avalon and around 12 at Premier Speedway in Warnnambool.
This resulted in two more seconds.
The Wanless World Series circus then had a rare weekend off with many of the teams heading to Sydney for the $50,000-to-win show that ultimately went in American Steve Kinser’s favour.
Then it was up to Queensland and first stop was getting in that opening round of the series at Brisbane on a Wednesday night.
Predictably the team claimed another podium and yes it was ANOTHER second, only bettered by the Donny Schatz show.
In fact the American stole the show for the next couple of nights, completely blitzing the field, by then winning the opening night of the two-night round 13 deal at Brisbane from Tatnell.
The following night he lapped the entire field in the non-stop 50 lapper with Tatnell cruising home in third.
The teams headed to Charlton Raceway in Toowoomba for a Sunday show for round 14 and the team was seventh overall.
Then it was back to Sydney for the two-night finale last weekend.
In the preliminary feature race on Friday night Tatnell was fourth and then on Saturday night he was seventh but he claimed enough points to wrap up back-to-back wins in the series.
It was also enough to give him seven championship wins to equal that of fierce rival Max Dumesny.
Tatnell won the series on 2318 points, 83 better than Robbie Farr with 2235, Dumesny 2204, Trevor Green 2021, Ricky Maiolo 1767, Peter Lack 1636, American Danny Smith 1289, Danny Reidy 1231, James McFadden 1148 and Cameron Gessner on 1094 to round out the top 10.
Farr had a mixed season, starting off with a second after being locked in an entertaining duel with Mitchell Dumesny in the first bout at Sydney where Dumesny flipped over the finish line.
He showed plenty of pace in the #7 entry but the results just didn’t seem to come his way at various shows, including a 16th in the Hobart round.
But there were some highlights including wins at Latrobe, Avalon and the preliminary feature at Sydney last Friday night.
He claimed seconds in that first Sydney round, followed by similar results at Adelaide and Murray Bridge.
Incidentally Farr claimed no thirds but was fourth on two occasions and fifth three times.
Apart from Tatnell and Farr, other feature race winners were Mitchell Dumesny, Trevor Green, Danny Smith (USA), Jason Johnson (USA) twice, Donny Schatz (USA) three times, Max Dumesny and Kerry Madsen.
