The Story:
The story behind the guy "Mick" that many karters still remember. Mick or Michael Bright, was 1 of the brothers to Denise Brown, the better half of Allan Brown of Brown Karting. Micks father [ Sam ] got his brother & Denise into Karting in the seventies, & Mick was soon to be involved. Mick was a mechanic working at Sam Bright Motors & enjoyed the racing & friends from karting [ in those days on bitumen ] but he also loved the mechanical & fabrication side to karting. In the 80's Mick was always there behind the Banner of Brown Karting & was there beginning to make parts for Gokart Chassiss, for both bitumen & dirt karting.
In the 90s Mick became well known to dirt karting as the hard working, fun loving character that would build the Brown Karts to Allan's specifications or Customed to suit the drivers needs.
Mick continued this well in to the 2000 years, where he returned to racing on the dirt, racing Statesman's Class & was always trackside to advise & help out other competitors. Mick would be sometimes so busy helping others his own race would nearly be missed.
Never shy , never worried , loved his Jack Daniels , wore his Akubra hat everywhere, & loved to tell stories of events gone by. Mick was a true character & foundation of Karting in S.A. In 2005 Mick rebuilt Adelaide's Water truck engine , without hesitation, yet a job no one else would touch.
That was Mick "" Get it here & Lets just do it ""
It was soon after that Mick [ aged 53 ] had decided on an operation that would see his health improve , but to everyone's shock post op complications set in & Micks days ended briefly afterwards.
Not just a loss to his wife, family & friends, but a loss to Karting, a loss to Adelaide & Angas Clubs [ his main tracks ] & a loss to anyone that had every met this character. Adelaide & I'm sure many friends in Karting will remember Mick again in 2008 with great thoughts at the Statesman's Trophy Day Sept 21st
Nominations:
110 entries are already in, with a great field of 15 Statesman Drivers entered to battle for the Trophies.
Some big fields again for all KT classes & 100cc Open is on again to show us all some real speed, as well as all the regular classes
