the use of neckbraces in kdirt karting is not new to this season it was tried and made compulsory previously and didn't work out. I agree with the idea safety equipement but drivers should be aware if they require extra safety equipement the don't need to wait until a rule change to use it. If they want it then buy it and use it rib protectors included, waiting for it to be made compulsory shouldn't be a consideration when considering what each driver as an individual needs or wants. I have been involved in many forms of racing and have items not compulsory in the rules which I have used and will use. Basic designs need to be looked at I recently purchased 2 new neckbraces 1 design very simple and effective the other expensive and the worst design and not just in my view after loaning it to another driver at the April YPDK meeting, rules of design should be fore most then made compulsory. In any event if you want it then buy it don't wait just to have a rule making it compulsory. This my opinion and may not be shared by all but it is everyones choice as far as safety go's

We also need to appreciate the INSURANCE apsect. Like safety in general, how many of you wear safety glasses when drilling or ear muffs to mow the lawn? Some people need to be guided.

I see more and more karters moving towards the Leatt style neckbrace.. DPE have recently released a similar version which retails for $275.
I have worn the Leatt for a couple of seasons, and it is comfortable and durable. If you look at any moto-x event, nearly every rider uses a similar type of neck brace.
Do your own research as to the benefits of a foam collar in the type of accident likely to occur when you crash your kart.
