I understand that the decision by the AIDKA Executive at their last meeting to reduce the track limit to 16 will be discussed at the AIDKA Council meeting this Friday.
At this stage it is unclear as to whether the Executive decision was based on an insurance requirement but this should be clarified at the meeting.
The main impact of the track limit reduction will be a potential increase in the number of races per round at larger events such as titles. Any classes with greater than 16 nominations would be oversubscribed and require additional races.
The change may not impact on smaller club level events as they generally have class numbers less than 16.

Following the AIDKA Council meeting I am informed that the track limit will remain at 20 but clubs of concern will be the focus of the AIDKA Track Inspector. If the clubs are unable to improve the standard of their track to that required for a full 20 kart rating then they will be restricted to 16.
Given the impact on time requirements of a track limit of 16 I would assume that it follows that any club not capable of obtaining certification for the 20 kart track limit would also find it difficult to win the right to host a title event.

Does anybody have any ideas on what safety items would impact on a field size of 20 but not 16?
I have been trying to think of potential items and other than the track is too short requiring a new track design then most other items would be applicable regardless of the number of karts on the track.
Sand traps, tyre barriers, fencing etc are all items that would be safety concerns for just 1 or 2 karts on the track so other than overall track design and in particular length I can't think of anything.
In grid and out grid would impact on the ability to run an event efficiently but I don't think theywould impact on the ability to safely run 16 karts but not 20.
Interested to hear any ideas.

I guess in-grid and out-grid are the obvious candidates ? As far as a driver goes, it would be awesome to have more than 20 karts on the track, not less!

I haven't heard any track names mentioned at this stage. Once the AIDKA Track Inspector knocks on the club doors we may get to hear a bit more information.
