Firstly I would like to acknowledge the Morgan Dirt Kart Club Title Committee for taking the initiative to request feedback from the competitors in relation to the race format of the SA Titles they are hosting in May 2012.
I am not a competitor but for what it is worth I would suggest that the 6 Heats with the option to drop the worst heat did not get good feedback when used previously for the 2008 SA Titles and also more recently for the 2011 Australian Titles. The only place it has proven to be accepted is at Alice Springs where the intent was to provide more races to make the interstate travel more worthwhile.
A number of drivers may not like the Finishing Order of the Final format but following some number crunching last year I believe that it is the best option of those currently available to you in the 2012 Rule Book.
Using the 2011 SA Title results I found that only the top 4 or 5 grid positions in the Final had the potential to finish 1st based on a Final with Points and that in most cases required other drivers to DNF. This being the case the drivers starting in Final grid positions higher than 7 are generally only actually having an extra drive.
If you use the finishing order of the final then all 20 drivers in the final have the potential to finish 1st or at least on the podium.
The Final however should have additional laps to make it effective. I would suggest something like 15 laps to allow the drivers starting at the rear to have a chance to work their way forward. The heats 1 to 4 could be 8 laps for example.
The additional laps in the final would not be a problem if you are considering 6 or 8 heat system as it is only 5 races.
All the best for the titles whatever you decide.
