I have just run my first club race in Mildura on an arrow ax-8 fireball. Whilst i had thought my first season would likely be spent at the end of the field, slowly gathering the necessary knowledge to win, i finished on the podium in the all powers! Obviously now i feel the pressure not to look like a complete amature! I honestly don't know a thing but am super keen to learn. Would appreciate any advice on chassis geometry for better handling, tyre pressures, gearing, hardware and driving tip, so that I can keep up the pointy end of the field.

Hi Welshy, if you give a bit of a description of the track layout (how long are the straights, how tight are the turns), and also the grip level and what type of tyres you are running i'm sure there are a few on here that will be able to give you a few tips on getting a bit more speed out of your set-up.

Historically a solo speedway track- short straights, tight corners. First two rounds the track was soft and slippery, but but by the final, was just short of black. Sorry about the lack of detail but I checked out the club web site and elsewhere, but to no avail.

Soft tyres at the mo but would like to go to hard for better durability.

Sounds pretty typical of the short speedway tracks around the place. I've never raced competitively on speedway, there are others here that have a good handle on set-up though.
Best tip i can give on general set-up is to look at the most likely passing spot on the track, then do whatever you need to get your kart to get the best exit out of the preceding corner. Don't worry about how that effects the handling on the rest of the track. It's all about being able to pass other karts if you want to win big meetings. The quickest set-up for the fastest lap around the track won't always be the one that allows you to pass other karts in the heat of the battle.
If he's still around on here, give Lyonsy a PM. If you have a specific speedway set-up question he'll know the answer, or be able to find out.

Hey welshy, i saw u race at mildura, i was there helping a mate get his kart set up...
Ur kart seemed to be a little tight, and that comes from having a ax8 bitumen chassis, it looked as though u were struggling with getting the power down, also having a lot of push into turn 3 and you were just off the racing line in the loose.
I race there when i get the chance, all power nationals seem to be the go...
Gear ratio is always important at mildura, depending on your rpm..
I race both speedway in melbourne and aidka in south aus.

with out knowing what the kart is doing and what size chassi very hard. going off van giz you need a touch of stagger 1/2in or so get a narrower rr rim like a 7in if loose coming off move your seat back
