MEMORIAL TRIBUTE TO BILLY THE KID
------------------------------------------------------------
Leith Bilney, well know as ‘Billy’ or ‘Billy The Kid’ began Dirt Kart racing in 1993, using big brother Corey’s go kart and followed in his footsteps by achieving the “Junior Highest Point Feature Race” Trophy 1994-97
(Corey held this title for 1992-93). ‘Billy’s’ dad Warren fondly remembers a T-Shirt he especially designed with No. 1 winner 1994 to 97 which ‘Billy’ wore to the 1997 presentation night. When receiving the Trophy that night he was asked how he knew he was going to win the 1997 Title, let alone print it on his shirt in advance and Billy proudly replied “My Dad keeps track of the points” In 1998 he moved from Juniors to J Open for 2 years, then upgrade to 200cc Class in 2000. ‘Billy’, the pioneer of the 125cc motor in Australia in Dirt Kart Racing, purchased his motor in March 2000 but was not able to race until May, as he was under the min. age of 16 years to race in 200cc Class. Later, there were enough competitors for 125cc to have their own class, and today we have both 125cc Light and Heavy classes. Billy, Corey with crew support from Dad –Warren also competed at Morgan, Loxton and the Riverland Go Kart Clubs.
Leith ‘Billy’ Bilney’s Trophy highlights:
1994-97 Junior Highest Point Feature Race
1994 2nd SA State Titles - Juniors
1996 Angas Club Champion - Juniors
1996 Pestka Trophy - Juniors
1999 2nd SA Sate Titles – J Open
