WA Dirt Karting Was The Weekend Winner – BCM
Simple statement, the WA dirt Kart Titles has been run & won here at the Busselton Kart Club this weekend & all I can say is WOW.
170 Dirt Kart racers made their way onto the track on Friday afternoon for practice & the first round of heats, 2011 was to be s different format for the AIDKA titles as in previous years they have not raced on the Friday but this was an experiment for the 2011 Australian Dirt Kart Titles in Sept/Oct this year.
On Friday the action was hot straight off the grids, with all 13 classes being represented well, as usual the KT fields were strong with 20 in each class as was the 200 Opens & 125 Lights & Heavies.
20+ visitors from the other side of the border made their way to compete in this event with many of them getting in early preparations for the upcoming Australian titles later in 2011.
Winners on the weekend in the Junior Lights was Tim Ryan from the Dirt Trackers Kart Club, J Heavy Carl Aylett from Busselton & the first plate to venture over the WA border was in the J Open class for Jake Tranter from the Lucindale club in South Australia.
Moving into the KT classes and in lights is was again a South Australian in Jake Tranter making it two from two for the weekend, KT Mediums went to Ben Brown from the Angus club in SA, KT Heavy stayed home with local boy & current Australian champion Daniel Coleman again winning the KT heavy class, a class that his late brother won a few years back & it was a fitting moment when Daniel dedicated his win to Budgie. In the ol boys class the Statesman’s it was Mark Derosa again from the Busselton club. The 125 lights went the way of Jamie Thompson from the Dirt Trackers club in Perth & the 125 heavy was won by Glen Chinnery front the Busselton club a perfect wedding gift for his soon to be wife next week.
The open classes as usual were hard fought & tough on & off the track, the 100 Opens was won by another local boy in Daniel Keen & the 200 opens won by Perth Jenna kart club member Luke Morton, in the outlaws it was another going over the border to South Australia with Brook Alexander taking a convincing victory in that class. From my point of view the Busselton Kart Club came along way in a very short period & with an awesome committee they stood tall to run one of the biggest events of the weekend, to Radio West & Brownes Chill, thanks for the continued support and we look forward to bigger & better things in the future.
