ADKC TRACK UPDATE!On inspection of the track and facilities at 5.30pm today all is looking well for racing on Sunday. The track is looking great with no visual signs of water logging, if anything the surface is showing signs of cracking from the surface drying out. The infield car park and pit area are also showing good improvement from last weekend as the pools of water have now almost vanished and the new Gotta Getta Group out grid is as dry as a summer’s day just waiting for the invasion of karts on Sunday. With the club volunteers in for a big day tomorrow to fine-tune the track & surrounding facilities all is looking promising for a great race day on Sunday for the BRK sponsored Mick Bright Memorial Statesman’s Trophy Day. An update will be posted here around 7.00pm tomorrow (Saturday Sept 11th) See ya trackside

GREAT WEATHER & GREAT RACING FOR THE MICK BRIGHT MEMORIALWith last week’s meeting being a washout the focus was on the skies all weekend for the Sundays Browns Racing Karts sponsored Mick Bright Memorial Statesman Trophy day. Saturdays fine weather gave the surrounding car park, pit area and infield ideal conditions to dry out, and the track maintenance crew a chance to get prepare for the raced starved karters to unleash on the Adelaide Dirt Kart banked clay raceway. Sunday’s weather was also picture perfect as if it was ordered from the father’s day catalogue from last week. With some out of town visiting master blasters like Geoff Billing & John Boulger taking on the locals, some strong supporting classes and the flattest track this year all was set for a great day. Statesman’s Heat 1 was the scene of some great racing with Simon Collins after starting from pole holding off a close finishing Adrian Schier for 2nd after starting from 4th and Larry Furler showing he was on a mission after his win in the Woodsy’s Dash for Cash meeting being a fast finishing 3rd after starting from 8th. Heat 2 started with Aust No1 Geoff Billing from pole position and the inform Larry Furler starting from 3rd had the making of a great race written all over it. As predicted Larry pushed the Statemans master all the way from start to finish with Nigel Whitehead holding on for 3rd. Heat 3 seen the two rivals John Boulger from pole and Adrian Schier from 2 with the memory of the their 2008 Mick Bright Memorial 4th heat when John spectacularly drove on top of Adrian for some time before both rolling at the end of the main straight on the last lap. With all holding their breath at the start it was a drag race to the first corner with Simon Collins joining in to make it 3 wide with John and Simon pushing too hard leaving the inside line open in the second corner for Adrian to slip in front. Adrian knowing John was on his tail was pushing hard to make sure there was no re-enactment this year and made it to the chequered flag in front of John with Larry again showing his passing skills finishing 3rd from his 8th starting position. The start of Heat 4 again seen a wall of karts coming into the 1st corner together with the pole sitter Nigel Whitehead coming out the other side just in front of Billing who started in 5th, Larry in 3rd after starting from three and Adrian had found another huge gap to be 4th after starting from 9th. The racing was tight and furious for the entire race with Geoff showing his class and experience to finally win the heat from a fast finishing Larry and Nigel also a close 3rd. With the heats over the points were very close with only 2 points separating the 1st three starting positions. With Larry earning pole position on 64 points, Adrian on 63 points starting from 2 and Geoff 62 points starting from 3 it was a case that finishing track position would likely determine final podium positions. With a large crowd including members of the Mick Bright family lining the fence to witness the 10 lap Mick Bright Memorial featured event. When the green flag fell it was another drag race up the front with no one giving a millimetre and the front row going around the 1st corner together. Into the 2nd corner Geoff was up onto the back of Larry’s bumper, Adrian dropping back into third with Nigel a close 4th. The final was a nose to bumper tussle with Geoff trying every trick in the book to pass Larry with one attempt taking him wide on lap 6 so Adrian in3rd place sensing an opportunity to capitalise pulled up alone side to only allowing Nigel to follow Geoff through to gain a place. All 4 front runners finishing together with Larry taking the chequered flag to win from Geoff who also finish 2nd overall from Nigel who was 4th for the day and Adrian 4th over the line and enough points to finish 3rd on the podium for the day. The great weather, the flat track, the close racing and the final results were a fitting result for the 2010 Mick Bright Memorial Statesman’s Trophy day. The Adelaide Dirt Kart Club would like to thank the competitors for some very entertaining racing all day, Browns Racing Karts for sponsoring the club and this annual event and the Mick Bright family for attending the day as Mick would have been proud of the day in his memory. See Ya Trackside
