Look at some of the photo's of dirt karts around here, if you think the tyres widely used in AIDKA (Burris) are suited to the kind of tracks you want to run on, then Edwards wheels are hard to go past.. www.edwardskartwheels.com.au/Check out their website, they manufacture wheels in-house, and are Australian distributor for Burris tyres. Not sure who sells them in NZ ? Don't be shy to give the guys at Edwards a call, they are very helpful.

That rear wheel would be OK, mostly people run 5inch wheels on the front, look at the Burris tyres on the Edwards website for the different options.
The softest compounds will give more grip on a slippery track, if the surface dries up and gets rubber on it, it will wear out soft tyres very quickly, and the soft tyre will squirm and not give the best performance.
If you can get everyone to agree on things, you are better off getting the hardest tyre you can, as it will last the longest and be more cost-effective for everyone.

The style of kart you mention would be an outlaw class over here. Tyre size and rim size would depend on whether you are running 2 or 4 stroke motors and also the cc's of the motor. gear boxed karts are different to set up than other kart classes. If your running higher horsepower bike motors you would need to run a hard compound depending on the track you run on. Sandy based tracks you will burn the tyres. You should look at 12" x 8" x 6" a standard burris size on the back and a 10" x 5" x 5" burris front. weight distribution is important in setting a gear box kart up. If you want to pm me I will give you some details on the set up I use and other outlaw drivers has used.

what style chassis you building offset's or straght rail? what surface is the dirt? what size engine and power? depending on chassis and a typical speedway surface clay type you would want a 9x6 rr possibly a 8x6rf or a 7x5 rf possibly depending on the size of the track you will want stagger on the rear so ether a 8x6 or 7x5 lr and 5x5 left front lose backyard dirt you will prob want atv tyre's
