I would just like to clarify some information about QuickGrid as it is being used by a few clubs as the reason for placing drivers ROF (Rear Of Field) for "late nomination".
AIDKA Rule
9.12 Late Nominations to Rear of Field all day including all Finals at club discretion.
The above rule was introduced last year and is effectively just a reference for clubs that required something to point to when drivers weren't happy at being placed ROF for nominating late. It does not mandate that drivers must be ROF for nominating late as it is at each clubs discretion.
Now to my point...
The amount of time it takes to complete a grid draw is dependent on the computer being used and the number of entries. As a guide it would take between a fraction of a second and worst case 3 seconds. It makes no difference to the grid draw time if a driver is placed "in the draw", "ROF" or "Probationary".
I am aware that a couple of clubs produce a printed program prior to the event but my understanding is that they only include the drivers names and not grid draw information. I also understand that even the clubs that close nominations 4 or 5 days prior to the event often complete a new grid draw on the day of the event as some nominated drivers fail to attend.
If grid draw information is not contained in a printed program or as at the majority of clubs there is no printed program then it makes no difference to QuickGrid whether a driver is "in the draw" or "ROF".
It should also be clear that it is not "mandatory" for any club to place drivers "ROF" for nominating late it is at the "clubs discretion".
Clubs only designate drivers as "ROF" to deter them from nominating late. There are factors outside of grid draws such as catering ie. how many drivers are expected can impact on such things as canteen management etc.
There are other means of deterring "late nominations" but the drivers may prefer being "ROF". Clubs could for example have an higher priced late nomination fee and add the driver into the normal grid.
So in summary...QuickGrid is not the reason that drivers are placed "ROF", the amount of time taken is no different it is simply a club decision.
