You would be best off getting yourself a 125cc kart. Elec start so no being picked up and dropped. Enough power for your weight.
Head out to your local track, have a chat. If its a club day they should be able to organise you a drive to see if you like it. And they will be able to tell you of any karts for sale, might help you avoid buying a lemon.
If its a bit far give the president a call, tell him the situation and go from there. Dirt karters are generally a friendly bunch

I'm also looking at starting racing with my daughter. I was just curious as to the costs of dirt karting. I'm from Mt Gambier so I know travelling will be a big expense for us. On average how many meetings can you run on a set of tyres for the KT/125 classes.

Hi BJ, in my experience in the 125, the rear tyres will last for around 6 meetings, but they get slower the longer you use them. The front tyres last twice as long.
The KT tyres will last a bit longer. If you run on a track that is very grippy it will wear out the tyres much faster. When you are starting out if you look around you will be able to get 2nd hand tyres for a fraction of the cost of new ones which might be better off until you want to run at the front.

i was thinking of the 100cc class to start with as that seems more in my budget at the moment, and as mostly it would only be me and my wife attending meetings and i doubt that she could push start me my question is can you put or is there an electric starter that can be put onto 100 cc kart same as the 125's

Unless you go 100cc open, and use a clutch and electric starter, your only option for electric start is 125cc.
In my experience the 125cc is cheaper to run than a KT, but they are more complex to maintain.
